In this video from PASC18, Sascha Husa from the University of the Balearic Islands presents: Numerical Relativity and its Applications for the Modeling of Gravitational Waves.
“The optimally efficient detection of gravitational wave events, and the robust identification of the sources of such events rely on accurate models of the gravitational wave signals for astrophysically plausible events. Such models are synthesized from numerical solutions of the Einstein equations and perturbative models. This talk will review the current status and open challenges in solving the Einstein equations numerically as a system of partial differential equations as applied to the coalescence of compact binaries in the context of gravitational source modeling.”
