The PASC19 Organizing Team is pleased to announce that submissions are open for minisymposium, paper and poster contributions. Submissions should be made at submissions.pasc-conference.org.
For those familiar with previous PASC Conferences, please note that important changes have been made to the submission process for minisymposia, including the requirement for an expression of interest (deadline 7 December 2018), and that the papers program now offers rolling submission deadlines.
CONFERENCE
PASC19 is the sixth edition of the PASC Conference series, an international platform for the exchange of competences in scientific computing and computational science, with a strong focus on methods, tools, algorithms, application challenges, and novel techniques and usage of HPC.
The program features keynote presentations, papers, minisymposia and poster sessions, a panel discussion, and an interdisciplinary dialogue. The theme of next year’s edition will be Exascale and Beyond – PASC19 invites its participants to reflect on the common challenges and opportunities for computer architects, software developers, and domain experts as we enter the realm of Exascale computing.
PASC19, co-sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and SIGHPC, will be held at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, from June 12 to 14, 2019 (pasc19.pasc-conference.org).
CONTRIBUTIONS
As in previous years, the technical program of PASC19 is organized around eight scientific domains:
Chemistry and Materials
Climate and Weather
Computer Science and Applied Mathematics
Emerging Application Domains (incl. but not limited to social sciences, finance)
Engineering (incl. but not limited to CFD, computational mechanics, computational engineering materials, turbulent flow)
Life Sciences (incl. but not limited to biophysics, genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, neuroscience and computational biology)
Physics (incl. but not limited to astrophysics, cosmology, plasma modelling, QCD)
Solid Earth Dynamics
PASC19 welcomes submissions for minisymposium, paper, and poster contributions that demonstrate innovative research in scientific computing related to any of these scientific domains. Topics that engage with the theme of PASC19 – Exascale and Beyond – are particularly welcome.
Upcoming Submission Deadlines
Minisymposia: 07 Dec 2018 (Deadline for expressions of interest)
Papers: 15 Nov 2018 and 15 Jan 2019 (rolling deadlines)
Program and Publication Opportunities
The goal of the PASC papers program is to advance the quality of interdisciplinary exchange between the various specific fields of computational science and engineering. We welcome high-quality contributions of original research related to scientific computing in any of the eight PASC scientific domains.
Papers will be evaluated by domain experts primarily on their significance, technical soundness, originality, and quality of communication.
Papers accepted for PASC19 will be presented as talks, and published in the Proceedings of the PASC Conference, accessible via the ACM Digital Library. A selection of the highest quality papers may be given the opportunity of a plenary presentation. In selecting papers for plenary presentation, the Papers Committee will place particular weight on impact, interdisciplinarity and interest to a broad audience.
Following the conference, authors will have the opportunity to further develop their PASC papers for publication in a relevant, computationally focused, domain-specific journal. Authors thus stand to benefit from the rapid and broad dissemination of results afforded by the conference venue and associated published proceedings, as well as the impact associated with publication in a high-quality scientific journal.
Submissions
This year the PASC Conference introduces a novel rolling submission and review process. There will be six submission deadlines every year, on the 15th day of odd-numbered months.
Papers submitted by 15 November 2018, or by 15 January 2019, will be considered for PASC19. The submission system is open continuously throughout the year.
Program
A minisymposium is a two-hour session of four 30-minute slots on a topic of current importance in computational science that showcases research related to domain science, applied mathematics, computer science and software engineering, and is an ideal platform for promoting interdisciplinary communication.
The PASC19 Minisymposium and Posters Committee will assess minisymposium proposals based on the following criteria:
The research described should be of significant current interest to the given scientific domain, and ideally, have potential application to other scientific domains.
The research should be based on state-of-the-art numerical methods.
Proposals should include speakers from multiple institutions and/or countries, and be designed such that the speakers bring a range of different perspectives and views to the topic.
Note: Organizers are strongly encouraged to include women and members of other underrepresented groups.
Submissions
The minisymposium submission for PASC19 is a two-stage process. The first stage is an expression of interest (deadline: 7 December 2018) which includes a short description of the proposed minisymposium (title and abstract). The second stage (deadline: 11 January 2019), the full submission, should include an extended abstract along with proposed speakers and titles for four 30-minute presentation slots (typically, these slots are 25-minute talks with 5 minutes for questions). The minisymposium organizer is permitted to give one of the four presentations her/himself. If desired, the fourth 30-minute slot could be a panel discussion or open discussion forum.
Program
Poster presentations provide an ideal opportunity for the exchange of ideas and expertise within and between the various computational science domains represented at the conference. Poster submissions should describe topical research related to domain science, applied mathematics, computer science or software engineering.
Poster presenters will be given the possibility to “pitch” their posters to the conference audience in a rapid-fire flash session before the scheduled poster session. Posters with the most stimulating content will be recognized in an award ceremony on the final day of the conference.
Submissions 13 January 2019: Deadline for submission of title and short description 26 May 2019: Deadline for submission of poster image (PDF) for those wishing to take part in the poster flash session
