Palazzo dei Congressi is a conference centre located in the heart of Lugano, next to beautiful Parco Ciani and just a short walk from the lakefront. The venue is within walking distance of the city centre, hotels, restaurants, and main attractions, and is well connected by public transportation.
Welcome to Lugano
Lugano, located in southern Switzerland in the Italian-speaking region of the country, lies on the shores of Lake Lugano and is surrounded by mountains. The city is known for its Mediterranean atmosphere, lakeside promenade, and picturesque historic centre. It combines Swiss and Italian cultural influences and offers a variety of museums, cultural venues, restaurants, and outdoor activities. Lugano is easy to explore on foot and is well connected by public transport, making it convenient for visitors to discover the city and its surroundings.
Accommodation
To assist PASC27 participants in their search for a hotel, we have made a room block booking at several hotels in Lugano. A limited number of rooms at reduced rates are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so booking early will give you the best selection. After entering your check-in and check-out dates and selecting the room type, you will be able to see the remaining availability at each hotel. Getting There
Lugano is located in southern Switzerland, close to the Italian border, and is easily accessible from both Switzerland and Italy.
By Air
If you are flying into Zurich Airport, take a train to Lugano, changing at Zürich main station (Zürich HB). The journey from Zürich HB to Lugano takes approximately 2 hours.
Alternatively, fly into Milan Malpensa and take a direct train to Lugano. The direct journey from Milan Malpensa Airport also takes approximately 2 hours.
For train connections and tickets, visit SBB. When searching for connections, enter “Zürich Flughafen” as your departure point if travelling from Zurich Airport. From Milan Malpensa Airport, enter “Malpensa Aeroporto T1” or “Malpensa Aeroporto T2”, depending on your arrival terminal. Your arrival station will be “Lugano”.
By Train, Bus, and On Foot
For train schedules and ticket purchases, please visit SBB and enter your departure and arrival station (arrival station: “Lugano”).
From Lugano railway station, take bus line 2 towards Castagnola (“direction Castagnola”) and get off at “Lugano, Palazzo Congressi”. The journey takes approximately 10 minutes.
Alternatively, take the funicular from the railway station to the city centre and walk to the venue (approximately 15 minutes).
By Car
Take the A2 motorway towards Lugano and exit at “Lugano Nord” or “Lugano Sud”. Then follow the signs to “Centro / Palazzo dei Congressi”.
Underground parking is available at Autosilo Piazza Castello, directly in front of the venue.
Traffic in Lugano city centre can be congested, so we recommend using public transportation whenever possible.
A Swiss motorway vignette (CHF 40) is required to use Swiss motorways. It can be purchased at post offices, petrol stations, and TCS offices (Touring Club Switzerland). For route planning, visit search.ch.
