PASC17 is pleased to announce further details on two panel discussions taking place at the conference next month.
1) Beyond Moore’s Law
The first panel discussion is focused on options for extending computing beyond the end of current silicon lithography roadmaps. “Beyond Moore’s Law” will be moderated by John Shalf from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
The following panelists will be entering into the debate:
- Joshua Fryman (Intel Corporation, USA) – What’s Post Moore? More of Moore…
- Matthias Troyer (Microsoft Research, USA) – Opportunities and Challenges in the Area of Quantum Computing and Quantum Simulation
- Karlheinz Meier (Heidelberg University, Germany) – Neuromorphic Computing – Achievements, Opportunities and Plans
2) Sustainable Software Development and Publication Practices in the Computational Sciences
This panel will feature representatives from computationally focused scientific journals, who will engage in a discussion over publication practices in computational science, including the publication of software codes. The session will address questions such as How can we ensure that code and infrastructure will still be there in ten-plus years? And how can we validate published results and guarantee reproducibility?
The session, chaired by Jack Wells from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, will provide perspectives from the following panelists:
- Thomas Schulthess (CSCS / ETH Zurich, Switzerland)
- Walter Dehnen (University of Leicester, UK): Editor (Astronomy and Astrophysics) for Computer Physics Communications (CPC)
- Robert Pincus (University of Colorado, USA): Editor in Chief of the Journal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems (JAMES)
- Michael A. Heroux (Sandia National Laboratories, USA): Associate Editor (Replicated Computational Results) for ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software (TOMS)
