SUMMARY:Surrogate models of nonlinear gyrokinetics and high-fidelity fluid
 -kinetic edge plasma codes
DESCRIPTION:Lorenzo Zanisi (UKAEA)\n\nHigh-fidelity gyrokinetic turbulence
modelling and scrape-off layer modelling are crucial for scenario develop
ment, but they not included in integrated models due to the associated pro
hibitive computational cost. Firstly, this talk will present surrogate mod
els of nonlinear gyrokinetics (operating in the full 5D phase space), demo
nstrating superior performance compared to quasilinear models and ~ms pre
dictive capability. Secondly, I will introduce a bespoke dataset of over 5
0,000 EDGE2D-EIRENE MAST-U simulations. Surrogate models of properties use
ful for both core-edge integration and target heat loads predictions will
be presented alongside full-field surrogate models and a few relevant appl
ications.\n\nDomain: Physics, Computational Methods and Applied Mathematic
s\n\nSession Chairs: Stephan Brunner (EPFL), Eric Sonnendruecker (Max Plan
ck Institute for Plasma Physics), and Florian Hindenlang (Max Planck Insti
 tute for Plasma Physics)\n\n
