SUMMARY:Building Trust in Fusion Science through Co-Designed HPC Infrastru
 cture
DESCRIPTION:Nitin Shukla and Alessandro Marani (SuperComputing Application
s and Innovation Department, CINECA)\n\nFusion is regarded as a sustainabl
e and almost infinite source of energy, making it essential for the future
energy landscape. Achieving controlled fusion requires a deep understandi
ng of the plasma in which fusion reactions occur. However, the plasma proc
esses involved span multiple spatial and temporal scales, making their beh
avior difficult to investigate through experiments alone. Numerical simula
tions therefore play a crucial role, and high performance computing (HPC)
enables researchers to study and understand these complex plasma dynamics.
\n\nSince 2016, CINECA has collaborated with EUROfusion and ENEA to suppor
t the fusion research community. A major milestone was reached in 2025 wit
h the inauguration of the supercomputer Pitagora at CINECA, dedicated to t
he computational needs of EUROfusion.\n\nThis talk presents the path that
led to the deployment of Pitagora, from the definition of procurement guid
elines to the final installation of the system. The cooperation developed
between the institutions and the continuous dialogue maintained throughout
the project are briefly described.\n\nThe support activities provided by
CINECA are also discussed, including system monitoring, cluster management
, vendor interaction, and user support. Finally, the software environment
available on Pitagora is presented together with the support provided for
EUROfusion simulation codes used for plasma simulations.\n\nDomain: Engine
