SUMMARY:PD02 - Co-Designing Trust: Interdisciplinary HPC, AI, and the Futu
 re of Science
DESCRIPTION:As exascale computing becomes more prominent, alongside AI-dri
ven models and heterogeneous architectures, the nature of scientific disco
very is evolving, and with it comes our responsibility to ensure its trust
worthiness. This panel addresses shifts driven by scale, the balance betwe
en physics-based simulations and machine-learned surrogates, and the growi
ng complexity of computational workflows. Can verification, validation, an
d uncertainty quantification (VVUQ) keep pace with non-deterministic hardw
are, low-precision computation, and workflows/volumes that are increasingl
y difficult to reproduce? As AI co-authors discovery, how do we ensure acc
ountability in science? Beyond the technical domain, the panel explores HP
C's role in shaping societal trust. As scientific communication competes f
or attention in digital spaces, how can the community ensure that its outp
uts remain credible, transparent, and accessible? The panel highlights inc
lusive co-design as a promising path forward; bringing together diverse st
akeholders across disciplines, sectors, and society to embed trust and sha
red ownership into the foundations of research.\n\n\n\nSession Chairs: Ela
ine M. Raybourn (University of Central Florida) and Dominik Obrist (Univer
 sity of Bern)
