SUMMARY:MS3G - Open(ing) Development
DESCRIPTION:In recent years, openness through the availability of source c
ode has increased substantially. This trend has been driven by strong init
iatives from funding agencies and scientific journals seeking to enhance r
eproducibility and transparency. In this minisymposium, we aim to discuss
both the benefits and challenges of approaches that go beyond mere code ac
cessibility to enable genuine community participation in model development
. Communities engaged in Open Development must take into account several k
ey aspects, including governance, communication, and the cultivation of a
welcoming and inclusive culture. Equally important are the practical consi
derations—such as building and maintaining the community, developing compr
ehensive documentation, and establishing processes that ensure confidence
in the quality of contributions, for example through review and testing pr
actices.\n\nFrom Access to Participation: Using Learning Analytics to Supp
ort Onboarding in Open HPC Projects\n\nOpen development has become increas
ingly important for large-scale scientific software projects, particularly
in the high-performance computing domain. While the availability of sourc
e code improves transparency and reproducibility, community participation
requires more than open repositories. New c...\n\n\nBirte Heinemann (RWTH
